Department of Orthopedics is one of the core surgical department which is headed by Professor Dr. R Selvaraj. The department caters to provide supreme care in diagnosis and management of orthopaedic disorders and patients of road traffic accidents. The department comprises of mixture of experienced and fellowship trained faculties who can efficiently deal with all the subspecialties like arthroscopy, spine, foot, ankle, arthroplasty, and complex fractures.
We have two functioning units that delivers inpatient and outpatient care to unprivileged area of Kanchipuram district. Daily average OPD is about 105-110 with 8-10 operations (including major and minor surgery) performed in a day. The orthopaedic OT is equipped with state-of-the-art equipments like image intensifier, power instruments, high definition arthroscopic workstation, instruments and radiofrequency ablation instrument.
The department has adequate staff as per the statutory norms for guiding undergraduate and postgraduate students. Department offers training for 100 undergraduates. Every year 2 postgraduate students are perusing their postgraduate training since 2017. All the faculties are actively involved in teaching and grooming the future orthopods in handling the patients with orthopaedic diseases, trauma and disaster management.
Department of orthopaedics conduct interdepartmental training activities with other clinical departments such as Radiology, ENT and General Surgery.
