The Department of General Surgery is core surgical department that aims to provide highest quality of surgical skills and recent surgical updates. This is fulfilled with the help of latest technology, dedicated staff and consistent training. The department comprises of 4 units with mixture of staff with surgical speciality and super-speciality like urology, oncology to increase the strength of the department and to boost up students’ knowledge.

The department incorporates multi-speciality services such as Cancer care, Surgical Intensive care and trauma care.  The department not only concentrate on surgical aspect of the disease but preventive aspect is taken care by conducting various awareness program and special skill training workshops. The Department has developed state of art Intensive Surgical care unit and trauma care unit which is monitored by well experienced faculties trained in Critical care management.

The department has adequate staff as per the statutory norms for guiding undergraduate and postgraduate students. Department of Medicine offers training for 500 undergraduates. From year 2020, every year 4 postgraduates will get opportunity to excel mastery in the surgical field.

The department delivers Inpatient and outpatient services for under-privileged sector of population in and around the Kanchipuram district. In addition to that, speciality clinics are conducted to widen the surgical care for them. Daily OPD is about 115-120 and 15-18 surgeries are performed (including major and minor surgery) per day. 

Department of Surgery bridges with other clinical allied surgical departments such as ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics to exchange professional skills, knowledge of the subject through interdepartmental training activities.
