Department of Community Medicine is dedicated in providing excellence in medical education, basic and clinical research and service to improve the health of the citizens through holistic approach. It imparts medical education to undergraduates and postgraduate students about community health and preventive medicine and enables an academic atmosphere where students strive for excellence to achieve and aspire for health of the larger community. Postgraduate course in Community Medicine was initiated in the year 2016 with an intake of 2 seats per year and recognized in the year 2019 by MCI.

Rural and Urban Health Training centres attached to our department have well established and documented family folder system of medical records which facilitates family centred teaching, training and follow up health care services.

 Objective of our Department is to provide quality training in Community Medicine to the undergraduate and postgraduate medical students. The other activities of the Department are to conduct basic research, training programs and to provide promotive, preventive and curative health services to the community, for the health and welfare of the people. Ongoing activities (Health education, Students Research projects, Family health survey, Community based projects, Community Diagnosis, Poster /Oral presentations, Journal discussion, Quiz programmes) provide the academic learning platform and links to Public Health.

Mission: is to develop an outstanding academic environment for undergraduate and post graduate training in public health and community medicine through unique blend of traditional community medicine teaching, hands on public health experience, with incorporating global health perspectives.
