The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology was started in the year 2007 but attained its significant height under the dynamic leadership of Former Dean Dr A R Chakravarthy, a well experienced gynaecologist in 2009. The services are offered for comprehensive health to women of reproductive age and thereafter.

Outpatient services includes prenatal, postnatal check-up and immunization. Regular antenatal care is offered for pregnant women with focused care for high risk pregnancies. Labour rooms are manned by qualified experienced team of doctors supported by a team of Anaesthetists and Neonatologists. Family welfare services include sterilisation procedures with endoscopy, IUCD, oral contraceptives pills, barrier methods and tubal microsurgery. Oncology screening for cervical cancer like PAP smear and colposcopy along with detection and treatment of ovarian and endometrial cancer is done on frequent basis.

The department comprises of 2 units delivers inpatient and outpatient services for the rural population surrounding Kanchipuram district. Daily average OPD is about 55-60 with 8-10 operations (Major and minor) performed in a day. Average admission rate is about 5-7 per day. In addition, Oncology services are offered by team of Gynaecologists and Surgical oncologists. In order to reduce maternal mortality rate Government has introduced Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy maternal welfare Scheme under which patients are provided with economic support up to Rs.18000/- after registration of first ANC visit till postpartum immunization. Patients from the various segments of Kanchipuram are getting such benefit in our institute from 24.3.2017.

The highlight of the department is well equipped fertility centre with part time infertility specialist located at the third floor of hospital building. It is a renowned fertility centre in India and provides affordable treatments such as Hystero-laparoscopy, IUI, IVF, ICSI and andrology services.

The department has adequate staff as per the statutory norms for guiding undergraduate and postgraduate students.  At present every year 2 postgraduates are perusing their postgraduate training from our Institute. Along with clinical support, various awareness program and skill workshops are conducted frequently to acquire adequate knowledge and skills. The research aptitude of the students is developed by encouraging them to participate in conferences and to present paper/ poster.
